Numbers of Women Prisoners increase in the North


Latest figures released show a dramatic increase in the number of women prisoners held inside Ash House in Hydebank Wood Prison in the North of Ireland.

Ash House which is said to be able to ‘hold’ 71 female prisoners has this month reached 84, the highest recorded in the past five years.

The NI Prison Service said it was using other facilities on the Hydebank Wood site to manage the increase in woman prisoners.
